Tuition and Tuition Related Fees
Tuition and tuition-related fees are assessed to every UNT student depending on the
classes they are taking for the semester. Estimates are based on a 17-hour class load
for fall and spring.Actual costs depend on the student's enrolled course schedule.
After the student is enrolled for the semester, they can view their costs on their
myUNT account. For fall, the charges typically appear in July preceding the fall.
For spring, the charges typically appear in November preceding the spring. The links
below provide detailed information about UNT fees.
UNT Explanation of Fees
UNT Tuition and Fees Information
TAMS students are taking UNT classes and pay the same rates as all other UNT students.
As such, these costs are directly assessed and applied depending on the class schedule
of the student. TAMS does not adjust or change the rates/fees/costs. Any changes are
the result of a change in the student's classes.
Room and Board (Housing and Dining)
TAMS students are required to live in McConnell Hall on campus. Dining plans are required
by UNT for all students living on campus. The rates are set by UNT housing, 2024-2025
rates are currently subject to board approval.
Students must fill out a Housing application online each year at the Housing site. Applications should be complete before room assignments can be made. Housing will
post/apply the charges to the student’s account each semester, a few weeks before
classes begin. Fall semester begins in August, and Spring semester begins in January.
First-year students may begin filling out their Housing Application after they have been admitted to TAMS. TAMS Admissions will notify them and send
their "EUID." Using Housing Application portal link above for "e-housing," click on
"Create my Account" in the green column on the left.
Payment of $400 is due on housing site within ten days of completion of the application.
$350 will go towards room and board payment in the fall. The remaining $50 is a non-refundable
administrative processing fee for Housing. If payment is not made within ten days
of application completion, a new application must be submitted.
Second-year (returning students to TAMS) may begin their Housing Application in January
for the following academic year. For example, January 2024 for Fall 2024/Spring 2025.
In "e-housing (portal)," click on "Apply Now" in the green column on the left. The
application must be filled out before room assignments are made in the summer.
Payment of $350 is due on housing website within ten days of application completion.
$350 will go towards room and board payment in the fall.
UNT requires all students living on campus in a housing unit to have a dining plan.
The dining plan is a part of the Room and Board charges and is elected during the
housing application process. There are two options: Everyday/7-day plan and Weekday/5-day
plan. The estimate uses the 7-day plan cost. For additional information about the
dining plans, see Housing & Dining Rates.
The dining plan selected applies to the entire academic year (spring and fall semesters).
To change dining plans after the application, a change request must be emailed to
housinginfo@unt.edu. Requests must include the student's 8-digit ID#, full name, and request of change.
TAMS Program Charge (non-refundable)
The program charge helps cover additional costs due to the unique needs and services
in the TAMS program including:
- TAMS-exclusive dedicated psychology team,
- Academic advisors,
- Transportation,
- College application advisor, and
- Other dedicated team members specifically to assist TAMS students.
The current charge is $2500 annually, the amount will remain unchanged for both years
in TAMS. The TAMS Program Charge is non-refundable and due in full during the Fall
semester.
Student Activities Charge
Each student is required to pay $100 per year. The student activities charge is used
for the funding of all the organizations and activities sponsored by TAMS Student
Activities. These sponsored activities include, but may not be limited to:
- Fall and Spring Orientation
- Family Weekend
- Prom and After Prom
- Rose Cutting and Student Life Awards
- Weekend Trips
- Student Conferences
Loans
Loans require repayment and accumulate interest. Loans are not considered as awards
by TAMS when assessing needs since they have to be repaid. TAMS strongly suggests
students and parents understand their financial obligation completely prior to accepting
any loans offered.
If considering loans, TAMS recommends parents/students reach out via email to the
TAMS Assistant Dean of Finance and Operations (https://tams.unt.edu/contact) prior to accepting any loans. Students are automatically offered federal loans in
their my.unt.edu account by UNT Financial Aid based on their FAFSA completion. If
a student completed the TASFA instead of the FAFSA, students will not receive loan
offers through UNT Financial Aid.
Making Payments
Scholarships will remain in pending aid status until after classes start and attendance
is established (this is true every semester). The information below explains how to
determine what to pay depending on how you intend to pay for the semester (full amount
at beginning, by charges due date, or as payment plan). The instructions are based
on a student making payment through their student account at my.unt.edu. Additional
payment options and instructions for methods other than using the student account
can be found at the following link: https://studentaccounting.unt.edu/payments.html.
Payment Options:
There are 3 different ways to pay for the semester (Choose and follow through with
chosen method by beginning of semester due date to ensure the student retains their
classes). Prior to making payment, make sure all charges and scholarships are posted
to the student account. Paying too early may not provide adequate time for the charges
on the account to be final. For the fall, TAMS recommends not making payment prior
to the second week of August.
Please note credit or debit card payments charge a processing fee of 2.79%. An electronic
check will not incur the processing fee. Steps to determine how much to pay for each
method are below:
1. Pay the full amount due for the semester
Paying the full amount means paying everything less scholarships at the beginning
of each semester by the first due date. Choosing this method should leave no amount
due in the future. Students should continue to monitor their account as additional
fees can be added during the semester due to changes made to classes, replacement
of IDs, certain exemption tests through UNT, and other reasons.
To determine how much to pay:
a. go to my.unt.edu and log-in
b. Choose the Student Account Tile

c. Choose the “Account Balance” menu item. This will provide your full amount due
for the Semester. It will show the Charges less any payments made or scholarships
posted, pending financial aid, and the difference between the two as total due. Write
the total due amount down

d. Choose “View and Pay Bill” menu item and follow the prompts to the payment system.
Pay the Total Due amount you wrote down from “Account Balance” screen. Starting Fall
'24 the payment system should consider anticipated aid when making an in-full payment
and the amount from the “Account Balance” screen should be an option. If the amount
is not available as an option, the student can choose other amount and enter total
due amount per the “Account Balance” screen.

2. Pay Charges Due Now
This will require an additional payment in the future
a. See how much is due by date by going to the Student account tile (see above) and
then the Charges Due screen. For the first payment due each semester, you will need
to take the amount on the “Charges Due” screen and subtract out the pending aid from
the amount due. This will be the amount to pay for the first payment. For some students
this may mean nothing is due on the first payment (depending on amount of aid). If
that is the case, then make sure to make payment or place remaining amount on payment
plan by room and board due date (due date will be specified on “Charges Due” screen).

b. Choose “View and Pay Bill” menu item and follow the prompts to the payment system.
Pay the amount you calculated from “Charges Due” screen (Amount due for first payment
minus the pending aid). Starting Fall '24 the payment system should consider anticipated
aid when making the payment. If it does not consider the anticipated aid, the student
will have to manually enter this as “other” amount in the payment system
c. Additional payment will need to be made for room and board later in semester (due
date can be seen on “Charges Due” screen)
d. In Fall only, additional payment will need to be made for TAMS Program Charge and
Student Life Fee (due date can be seen on “Charges Due” screen)
3. Place on Installment Plan
This will create an installment payment plan which takes the balance due and spreads
the charges over three payments through the semester. The payment plan charges a $35
non-refundable fee.
a. Go to the Student Account Tile (see above) and select “Payment Plan” in the menu
option.

b. Click on the blue button seen labeled “View and Manage Payment Plan”
c. Once the blue button is clicked it will redirect the student to the Nelnet Quickpay
system. The Payment plan options will be available for selection here:

d. Choose either the (EMRG) or regular payment plan and click “Sign Up for New Payment
Plan”.
i. (EMRG) payment plan- requires a $100 down payment and is only available for students
close to the deadline
ii. Regular Payment Plan (noted as the semester and year only)- requires a 10% down
payment of the total charges for the semester
Both plans take the remaining balance and divide into 3 payments due. To determine
how much 10% would amount to you can go through the first couple of steps with the
possibility to back out and choose the other option prior to entering or choosing
a payment source.
The payment plans account for pending aid and calculate the payment amounts accordingly.
Refunds
Please make sure elections of refund preferences are made on the student's account
at myUNT. Failure to elect the refund preference will result in a mailed check to
the email on file. It will not refund back to where the payment was made from unless
that is set as the student's refund preference.
Summer Costs
During the summer after their first academic year, TAMS students may decide to participate
in summer research or summer courses. TAMS students are not required to participate
in either of these programs.
For a student to conduct research on campus during the summer the student must complete
and be accepted into the TAMS Summer Research program by the application deadline.
The application is required for ALL TAMS students wanting to conduct summer research
regardless of whether student will be seeking scholarship or not. Additional information
and application can be found at: /research/summer-research.
Students interested in taking summer courses need approval and should consult with
their TAMS academic counselors in the Spring concerning their interest. Students taking
in-person courses are required to live on campus during the summer. All associated
costs are the responsibility of the student.
Tuition and Tuition Related Fees
Cost Estimator- The UNT cost estimator is the best place to determine a base cost
for the summer semester, the link is here: https://estimatemytuition.unt.edu/
Information about the Cost Estimator:
- Choose the current Academic Year; it will be the same rates for the summer.
- Location of Classes—makes a difference. Choose Denton Campus if you are doing any
in-person courses. If all classes are true online classes choose the option but note
the description needs to specify that the class is an online section (remote and other
semi-online versions do not count) and all of your hours need to be online.
- Major— choose the closest major which fits with the classes you are taking. If not
sure, default to some form of Engineering as they have the higher-class fees.
- Discrepancies—there are some fees the calculator doesn't ask enough questions to consider,
such as lab fees. The amount provided by the estimator is a good estimate of what
courses will cost for the summer, not an exact amount. The only way to get an exact
amount is to enroll in the course/s and look on your student account.
Summer Room and Board Charges
Students enrolled in on-line only courses that requires no in-person interaction will
not live on campus and can disregard this section.
- Housing charges— students taking on-campus courses or conducting in-lab research will
be required to live on campus. A summer application for housing will need to be completed
and housing charges will be due during the summer.
- Meal Plans— also required with any housing stay is a meal plan, meal plans are divided
into 5-week summer sessions so for someone taking full summer courses or summer courses
in 5w1 and 5w2 you will need to sign up for both meal plans.
Summer housing and meal plan charges can be found at housing.unt.edu under rates once housing publishes summer costs.
Scholarships
- TAMS Summer Research Scholarships- Students who apply for and receive the summer research
scholarship will receive $4,000 in total disbursed periodically throughout the summer
(details are provided in the scholarship notification). The scholarship is enough
to cover the 1-hour credit and 10-week room and board required by the summer research
program. The student must complete the program and participate fully in order to receive
all scholarship funds in which case there will be no out-of-pocket costs to students
conducting research with the TAMS Summer Research Program.
- TAMS Course Scholarships- Since summer courses are not required in order to complete
the TAMS 2- year program, TAMS does not provide scholarship for students completing
courses during the summer.
- Other Summer Scholarships- If considering summer courses, students can complete the
Summer Aid Interest Form on their UNT student account to be considered for specific
summer scholarships offered by UNT. Even if you are unsure, please complete this form.
If you do not take summer courses, it causes no issues to have completed the form.
**Final Note: TAMS Summer Research Program is a thorough immersion in the research
process and students are expected to complete 30-40 hours in the lab each week. Because
of the stringent expectations, students cannot participate in summer classes and summer
research simultaneously.
TAMS Financial FAQs
Scholarships Questions
Q: I received a notification from the TAMS Assistant Dean of Finance and Operations
of my scholarship award but do not see it on my student account in either pending
aid or financial aid, do I need to complete or do something else?
A: If a student signed the scholarship agreement using the link in the notification
email, there are no additional steps needed by the student. The estimated date of
scholarship posting to a student's account referenced in the notification email is
an estimate. Scholarship posting requests are submitted to UNT Financial Aid and may
take longer than the estimated time depending on the amount of submissions UNT Financial
Aid is completing.
Q: When should I expect to see my TAMS scholarships in my student account?
A: Each scholarship is different. When notifications are provided to students, an
estimated posting date is provided. Students are encouraged to view their pending
financial aid on the term summary in their student account frequently to determine
if scholarships have posted, but to only reach out after the estimated posting date
has passed.
Cost Questions
Q: I received a Cost of Attendance (COA) estimate from UNT Financial Aid and it is
more expensive than the TAMS cost estimate and doesn't show my scholarships; is this
the amount I will need to pay?
A: No. The COA sent to students by UNT Financial Aid is a federally required estimate
of costs associated with attending UNT and includes costs which are estimated life
costs. For example, miscellaneous, travel, and book costs are not charged to a student
by UNT. These are estimates of what a student might pay that year for those type of
costs. UNT Financial Aid adds these costs because the COA is a scholarship cap. Meaning
you cannot receive more scholarships or grants than your COA. Therefore, including
life costs does not limit student's financial aid to only the costs which are charged
on their UNT account.
