Summer Orientation Basics

TAMS Summer Orientation is for students and parents. If you have been selected for TAMS, as a student you are required to attend. Summer Orientation takes place on June 13 and 14 on the University of North Texas campus. Check in begins at 5:30 pm in McConnell Hall on Friday, June 13 and we'll keep you busy until about 5:30 p.m. on June 14.

• Registration — review your Summer Orientation registration here.
• Changes — If you need to alter your registration, please contact us to unlock your account at 940-565-3603. Please keep in mind that NO REFUNDS will be given after 5pm on May 30. A late registration fee of $10 will be applied to each change after this time.
• Meals — there will be NO evening meals on Friday or Saturday, so please plan accordingly. Visit www.discoverdenton.com to find some great local spots.
• Check-in — Check-in begins at 5:30pm at McConnell Hall, 1705 W. Sycamore St., Denton, TX 76201 for both students and parents. Students are required to spend the night in McConnell Hall. Parents/guests may arrange their overnight lodging below.
• Hotels providing special rates to Parents/Guests attending TAMS Summer O (June 13-14):
  • Best Western Denton - Last Day to Book: Monday, May 12, 2025
  • SpringHill Suites Denton - Last Day to Book : Friday, May 23, 2025
  • Residence Inn Denton - Last Day to Book : Monday, May 12, 2025
• Getting around UNT campus — using your smart phone, you can download the campus Mobile App and use the Map feature. The app information is available here or on the app store.

Paperwork needed Pre-Summer O

Every student must complete prior to coming to Summer Orientation

• Summer Orientation Agreement to Abide Policy
• Group Dynamix waiver – list TAMS/UNT as organization and Date of Event: 6/13/2025
• Room Habits Questionnaire - Please read before Summer O

Paperwork needed Post-Summer O

• UNT eHousing - TAMS will arrange room assignments. There are no private rooms at McConnell Hall
• Roommate Request – if you already know who you want to live with Fall 2025, fill this out. Both roommates must fill this out in order for it to be valid. Due June 30
  • If you have not identified a roommate, please complete the Room Habits Questionnaire so TAMS can match you with another student
• UNT Student Health and Wellness Center – Minor Consent to Treat form – select University of North Texas and complete before move-in day, August 14
• Authorizing Release of Records to 3rd Party – complete by move-in day, August 14

What to Bring to Orientation

Below is a list of items that you should consider bringing to Summer Orientation.

• Students - Pillow, bed linens or sleeping bag, towel, and shower items
• Casual summer attire (Think outdoor active wear — it will probably be hot outside & possibly cool inside! Flip Flops not recommended.)
• Sweater or Indoor cover-up (Those who tend to chill easily may want to bring extra coverage for indoor sessions.)
• Comfortable walking shoes (Sessions will be in buildings all over campus for students, parents not too much.)
• Shower shoes (For use in community bath)
• Umbrella and sunscreen (It’s Texas, you never know!)
• Pen and notebook

Because of on-going street construction by both UNT and the City of Denton, Lots 11, 31 and 33 are available for TAMS Summer Orientation participants to use. Please pick up a free parking pass at McConnell Hall front desk to display on your windshield. Attendees may choose to pay to park at Highland Street Parking Garage, if they wish.
